PRINTMAKERS IN CITY VISIT TO CELEBRATE CULTURE OF MUSLIMS  South Wales Evening Post  31 December 2005

Two Pakistani printmakers are coming to Swansea as part of a national festival celebrating Muslim culture. The Festival of Muslim Culture, a year-long event across the UK, aims to improve understanding of the Islamic world.

The project was started in 2002.

Swansea Print Workshop, which has links with Pakistan, has invited the two printmakers to show their work with groups around the country.

An exhibition, Contemporary Pakistani Printmakers, is being staged at the Oriel Ceri Richards gallery at the Taliesin Centre in Swansea University from January 14 to February 4. And the pair, who are resident at Swansea Print Workshop until February, will hold printmaking workshops with a specially appointed outreach team.

A commemorative book following the creative process, from the early stages through to the editioning of artwork, is also being published in English, Welsh and Urdu.

A selection of prints created through the programme will be shown in a summer exhibition at the Oriel Ceri Richards gallery to coincide with the National Eisteddfod later in the year.

It will then tour Wales before moving to three venues in Pakistan.
