printmaking residency
The objective of this collaborative project was to introduce printmaking to a wide audience through hands-on workshop sessions with professional artists and designers. It aimed to provide opportunities for self-expression through the techniques of printmaking and encouraged participants to enjoy the experience of creating art under the guidance of a professional. As a community project, it was aimed at all levels of experience and ability; as well as the students at Gorseinon college it was tailored to serve specific groups from the local community, both adults and children including those with special needs.
The opportunity to work and then exhibit alongside professional artists has given the participants confidence to exchange ideas, experiment with new techniques and express their thoughts through the medium of printmaking.
Over 800 prints were created although a fewer number were selected for the exhibition at Waterstones, Swansea in July 2002. This Gorseinon College project was coordinated by Sarah Hopkins and was supported by the Arts Council of Wales.
